A sniff of the past

stevecowles

The sense of smell can be very evocative with different scents bringing back memories of different eras of our lives or even individual events.

Looking back I always link the smell of Castrol-R with some particularly good days, along with the metallic sensation of a grinder or even the the Scunthorpe steel works right by the old stock car track (when you raced there the 'shale' was so metallic that it made your mouth taste like your been punched on the nose).

Back in my student days it was joss sticks and I've had an unopened packet in a drawer at home for over 15 years so tonight I thought I'd light one. Hand rolled in India a decade and a half ago but the scent in still there, not thought about those years for a long while.
