There seems to be a focus on getting electric cars adopted on a wider basis but I'm wondering if this is focusing on the right thing. The move has started and seems to be accelerating but ultimately needs chargers to be in place to encourage people to make a switch, this will take some time.
In the meantime, little is heard in the press about the electrification of buses (unless they run on poo or pee, that always grabs a headline) but in reality the case appears compelling for several reasons.
They mainly run in heavily populated areas where the pollution is at its worst
Reduced noise would be welcomed by many parties
Even the electro-sceptics would see some advantage
They have a long lifespan so payback is good
Some existing stock can be retrofitted
Low daily mileage makes them a viable target
Regular stops offer top-up opportunities
Cleaner quiet bus service is likely to appeal to more people and have a knock-on effect on saved car journeys.
It just seems like a 'no-brainer' to me. Probably not a bad investment of taxpayer money.
